Welcome to our website
Maryknoll Brothers are men who commit themselves
to lifelong celibacy, prayer, community living, and ministry.
Bringing a wide range of talents to the missionary endeavor,
they build missions and schools, work as teachers and
administrators, develop agricultural and other life-sustaining
projects with indigenous people, serve in health-related fields
and contribute in numerous ways to the ministry of Maryknoll.
In the early days of the Church, the Apostles realized that
they could not preach Jesus’ Word without the help of others who
ministered in various ways in early Christian communities (Acts
6: 1-6). Although they do not perform sacramental Church
ministries, Maryknoll Brothers witness to the Gospel through
lives of service and prayer, proclaiming the Word throughout the
world.
Brother Frank Dolphin
Brother Frank Dolphin
obtained a Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts and was assigned to the
Chile Region in July 1972. After language studies at the Maryknoll
language school in Cochabamba, Bolivia, he was assigned to teach
English
as a Second Language at the Maryknoll
La Asuncion elementary and
high school in the Navy port town of Talcahuano. He also taught
English to workers in the steel mill and to students at the
University of Concepcion and the North American Institute. These were
very difficult times in Chile under the dictatorship of Pinochet.
Brother Frank became involved in Circus Ministry and
visiting performers of the Chilean circuses. To this day he is a great
friend of the Chilean clown, Tony Caluga and an avid
circus buff.
After 25 years in Chile,
Brother Frank was assigned to the United States and worked in the
Development Department, serving in the Denver House for six years.
In 2003, Brother Frank was reassigned to the Latin
America Region. He presently resides at the Maryknoll Mission Center
in Latin America in Cochabamba, Bolivia. He teaches English as a
second language to Bolivian priests and seminarians for service in
mission outside of their home country of Bolivia.
On the occasion of his 50th
Jubilee, Brother Frank wrote, “My spiritual quest is going beyond
the shores of my own country. To follow the example of my own
parents: my Mother is my first missionary who came from Ireland at
the young age of 16, and my Father taught me that the world is a lot
bigger than my home in Massachusetts. Of course, I follow in the
footsteps of my Maryknoll Brothers, priests, sisters and lay
missioners who have gone before me.”
