Maryknoll Brothers are men who commit themselves
to lifelong celibacy, prayer, community living, and ministry.
Bringing a wide range of talents to the missionary endeavor,
they build missions and schools, work as teachers and
administrators, develop agricultural and other life-sustaining
projects with indigenous people, serve in health-related fields
and contribute in numerous ways to the ministry of Maryknoll.
In the early days of the Church, the Apostles realized that
they could not preach Jesus’ Word without the help of others who
ministered in various ways in early Christian communities (Acts
6: 1-6). Although they do not perform sacramental Church
ministries, Maryknoll Brothers witness to the Gospel through
lives of service and prayer, proclaiming the Word throughout the
world.
Where we serve
Ministry is Mission in Action
Compassion is at the heart of all the ministries of
the Maryknoll Brothers. Whether providing life-giving medicines,
nutritious food, blankets, or something as simple as a glass of
clean water . . . it is compassion at work.
We live out our missionary
vocation to spread the love of God to our brothers and sisters in
need throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America . Grounded in
Catholic social teaching, we live and serve in 27 countries around
the world.
In Asia, Maryknoll Brothers mirror Christ’s love amid a wide variety
of cultures, languages and world religions. Our works include care
of the mentally and physically challenged, counseling workers,
promoting community organizations, AIDS ministries, and
interreligious dialogue.
In Africa, Maryknoll Brothers work side by side with the local
African Church in parish based ministries, caring for refugee
communities uprooted by war and famine, accompanying those
struggling with AIDS and orphaned by AIDS, and the many who labor to
compete in a global economy.
From the Rio Grande to the Straits of Magellan, Maryknoll Brothers
walk side-by-side with the people of Latin America in their struggle
to live their lives in freedom, dignity and peace. Working in
parishes, in AIDS ministries, in Seminary and lay formation
programs, and in Social Justice ministries, Maryknoll priests and
brothers actively engage in the greatest global spiritual journey of
our time. In the past several decades, more than a dozen U.S.
Catholic missionaries, including Maryknollers, have paid with their
lives for their dedication to the people of Latin America.
